When I was in middle school my parents took my sister and me to Europe for the first time. We landed in Brussels and as soon as we got our rental car my dad was on a mission: Mussels. We drove to a restaurant to enjoy this much hyped up food. I’m not sure we loved them at first. But throughout the trip my sister and I came to like them. If moules frites are on a menu now you can be sure I will order them!
Brasserie Beck has 2 locations in the DC area, one downtown and one in Maryland. When making our reservation I mentioned one of us is gluten free. To my delight upon arrival the hostess handed me a gluten free menu. Though frites were not on my menu the mussels were and I was thrilled.
Our waiter was incredibly accommodating to my needs, which honestly is not always the norm. He discussed many different dishes he could make gluten free for me that weren’t even on my gluten free menu. There are few restaurants we’ve experienced with that level of service. The food was outstanding too! Instead of frites I got roasted fingerling potatoes with my mussels. Brasserie Beck is also known for their extensive beer collection and this one had one gluten free beer and a pear cider.
