Finding decent gluten free pizza isn’t always easy. Sometimes there is something that is masquerading as pizza but you know something better is out there. Usually I have to go to DC to get a decent pizza but I recently discovered a new to me joint not too far away. &pizza is a local chain that I’d never heard of until a recent yelp search led me to them. Once I saw they offered gluten free crust I was stoked to try it out.
I would not recommend this restaurant to celiacs, the chance of cross contamination is way too high. Think Chipotle but for pizza. I was silently panicking when I saw the assembly line and was considering just bagging the attempt. BUT when I told them I wanted a gluten free pizza the staff also wanted to make sure I wasn’t celiac. They changed work stations for me and every single staff member who handled my pizza changed gloves. My panic dissipated.
The pizza was good too! Way better than others I’ve had so perhaps my pizza aversion was just an aversion to crappy pizza.
I also tracked down a bakery in Frederick MD that advertised gluten free baked goods. I wasn’t sure what to expect but Piece O’ Cake was really neat! They even had savory options! I ordered an Adult Grilled Cheese Sandwich and a Red Velvet Cupcake.
Both were delicious but what made it even more special were the amount of options. Often when I go to a bakery that has gluten free options they aren’t really plural there is only one option. I’m happy to have even the one option but to have had options in the plural was a real treat. They even have gluten free breads, muffins, and granola.
If you are ever in the DC area &pizza is a good quick bite to eat. For those venturing farther out to Frederick, do it!
